BD National Championships 2013!

23-09-2013 11:00:45 by Woodlander

We have arrived back home from a very successful Nationals where every day saw wonderful horses and good riding.

For Woodlander breeding there were two Champions - Rockstar won the Inter II with his 70% plus score, even after nearly falling on his head as he turned on to the diagonal for his ‘1’s!  Maria rescued him for a good result, without the stumble he would have been 75% plus I am told by a judge.  Farouche was our second Champion in the Advanced Medium - top riding from Michael and Maria.

We had three qualified for the Shearwater this year, but decided to leave Supertramp at home to give him a break after his particularly busy stud season (with his last collection on 14th September).  We took Dr Feelgood and Forever Amadeus who both behaved very well and coped beautifully with the Nationals atmosphere.  Amadeus presented himself as the smooth and easy young horse he is but without the big gaits and power to make it to the top quartile.  Dr Feelgood was unfortunately very tense due to a last-minute crisis with our loose-ring snaffle, declared illegal (a recent FEI rule change on the measurement of flanged bits) twenty minutes before our time.  Despite not winning, it is important to remember these are two of the top young horses in the country with only some 20 horses entered for the class.

In total, there were six Woodlander bred horses at the Nationals this year and each one made us proud, thank you.
