All the foals have now arrived at Woodlander
Stud and we are pleased to welcome the first big crop of foals
by Woodlander Wesuvio…Wienna, Walerie and Wyman. Walerie,
out of our mega moving Fidermark mare has already found a new
home.
Outside mare owners have also been delighted
with their new offspring and Wesuvio himself has exceeded
all expectations in his eventing career – in between
jumping on the dummy mare at the stud – by winning two
Intros, one Pre Novice at Draycott, 5th place at Great Tew
in very hot company where he finished on his dressage score.
The best result was his qualification for the Burley Young
Event Horse Championships in September. Congratulations to
his owners Alsion Walton and Maria Delves and also to Simon
Grieve who, I think, has never had such a purple patch with
one horse, albeit at nursery stakes. But this is also worth
a mention as his competition at Great Tew was, in general,
a lot older than five!
The start of our breeding season has been
difficult with very few mares having read the book and cycling
properly and so far we have only one mare in foal. This is
particularly exasperating as the youngest stud stallion Woodlander
Wavavoom, by Weltregent out of St Pr Lousiana, has now gone
back to Germany for Bundeschampionship Qualification and then
performance test. We have only one mare who could still give
us a foal by Wavavoom…so fingers crossed. This would
be a wonderful piece of luck as this young stallion who licensed
in Germany in 2008, has absolutely the best paces and rideability
and descends from both of our foundation families.
Woodlander Rockstar goes from strength to
strength with 9 out of 9 wins on the Sunshine Tour at Advanced
Medium (remember he is only 7), followed by qualification
for the regionals at Medium and Advanced Medium at over 70%.
Foals this year show some amazing breeding…a
top colt out of St Pr Lousiana, a Select and Gold Medal BWBS
mare as well as Hannoverian State Premium who is the dam of
Wavavoom (see above) is Woodlander Showaddywaddy by Showmaker;
a wonderful bay filly by Bundeschampion 5 year old, Kaiserdom,
out of St Pr Welley View – a full sister to International
GP stallion, Wenckstern; Mama Mia a bay filly by Monte Bellini
out of the amazing mare St Pr Savannah; Betty Boo another
bay filly by Bundeschampion Benetton Dream out of St Pr Limoncello;
Dr Feelgood a long awaited chestnut son of Woodlander Del
Amitri out of St Pr Walzing Matilda by Wenzel. Out of St Pt
Boheme, we have a charming Don Primero daughter who we have
called Dimples and this filly was bred by Louise Davidson.
The mare also will have a new stud home for next year with
West Oak Stud.
Congratulations to our customers and friends…the
very successful Glossoms Farm Stud whose GF Deville is qualified
as a four year old for both Shearwater Championships and the
Badminton Finals. A three quarter brother to Del Amitri, his
dam Byzantia came from Woodlander Stud along with a number
of the Glossoms’ broodmares including Wicked Lady. Further
congratulations to the new owner of Wanda (Wittinger x Cavalier),
Nicole Nelson of Willow Stud at Beenham who is the lucky recipient
of a delectable Benvenuto daughter of great type and movement.
Also thanks to Sue Charters, Carole Church,
Sue Lawrence, Liz Williams, Emma Dove, Debbie Clayton Smith
and Alison Thomas for their foals news and pics.
